Easter Random Dozen
March 31, 2010
1. How do you feel about the marshmallow Easter Peeps?
I think they look and feel and taste like nuclear waste. Does that answer the question?
2. Chickens are notoriously nervous creatures. When you are nervous, what is the best way to calm down?
Chocolate, screaming, smoking (sad but true).
3. People say, "April showers bring May flowers." Do you enjoy Spring rains?
I love the rain as long it is not a storm. I like to walk in a warm summer rain. I love the smell after a rain.
4. When I was randomly flipping through TV channels this week, I saw a show in which tattoo parlor employees received tattoos of a co-worker's face on their bodies. I can't imagine having a portrait of a colleague tattooed on me. But if someone forced you to receive a portrait tattoo (face only) of anyone, who would it be? Why?
I guess to be safe I would say .......
5. Would you rather have a tattoo (any kind) or a nose ring?
A nose ring because the hole would eventually grow closed if not used. A tattoo is forever.
6. Do you have any special plans for Easter?
Just husband and I for dinner. Turkey and etc.
7. Cadbury Eggs or Reese Eggs?
Cadbury peanut butter eggs. NOT the kind when cracked open they resemble an egg. EWWW.
8. What was the last thing/person you took a picture of?
The stand of popples across the road from us. They are not yet greened up.
9. What book are you reading now, or what was the last one?
I am reading a cozy mystery. The other book I am reading is called "The King Of Lies". I don't know yet if I like it or not.
10. What do you think is the most difficult task when it comes to Spring cleaning?
Doing the windows is hardest for me. It means taking down the storms, cleaning them, cleaning the screens, putting up the screens, then putting away the storms. All of my windows are done from the inside that way. But then I have to go outside and wash all of the outside of the windows. I have 15 windows to do.
11. How many pairs of flip-flops do you own?
I was going to say zero because I only wear Birkensotcks but then I opened my trunk this afternoon and there was a pair of flip flops. I don't know where they came from but they must be mine.
12. Which color makes you happiest?
Yellow, the color of the sun. The sun makes everything grow.

Happy Birthday my Gentle Giant.
Twenty six years ago today my son was born. He was my gentle giant coming to me weighing 10 pounds 9 1/2 ounces and 23 1/2 inches long.
When God decided to give me a child, He knew that I was not capable of dealing with a difficult one. He gave me the easiest baby ever to be born to a mortal mother.
He is my special boy. He slept through the night in 2 weeks. He was potty trained by 2 1/2 years old...even through the night (and they say boys are the hardest).
He has grown into a fine young man. He cares deeply and gives freely of himself. He is sarcastic and funny. He tries to be cynical but can't pull it off quite right.
He made my life complete. Before he was born I had been searching for something. He is my something.
Happy Birthday my sweet boy (he doesn't like the sweet boy).I hope it is as sweet as you are.
I think he was 2 in this picture with his favorite bunny. I still have the bunny. Isn't he sweet?
I can't get to the most recent picture of him. It was taken at Christmas and I know it is on my computer somewhere, I just can't find it.

The Simple Woman's Daybook - March 29, 2010
The Simple Woman's Daybook
March 29, 2010
I am going to try something different this week. We'll see how it works.
Outside my window. . .
My driveway as it looks now. It will look this way for about the next month and a half. Then the leaves will be out in full. I will post the difference then.
I am thinking. . .
The darker reddish vines like things are only part of my wild blackberry bushes. I am thinking about how they will all look when they are in bloom. The scent is so sweet.
I am learning...that having a working camera that is digital is lots of fun.
I am thankful for. . .
My husband. I often forget how great he really is. I often take him for granted. But today when I needed some serious help with things he was right there with me, helping. And he did it all with a smile; even when I was frustrated.
From the kitchen. . . Spaghetti, and bread tonight for dinner. Salmon chowder tomorrow with green salad. Liver and onions on Wednesday. Turkey for Easter.
I am wearing. . .the top half of my jammies that have rubber duckies on them with blue waves and pink bubbles. Black sweats for the bottom half. No socks or shoes.
I am creating. . .another baby blanket in pink. I am going to try and sell this one. Pictures to follow when finished.
I am going. . .nowhere this week. Homebody all week. Wow, I can't remember the last time that happened.
I am reading. . .A Grace Chapel Inn book. And Nancy Drew.
I am hoping. . .
This is a stand of popple trees that is across the road from us. I am hoping to see a haze of green soon where eventually leaves will be.
I am hearing. . .A Sherlock Holmes movie my husband is watching.
Around the house. . .
Yes, that is my Christmas village. I am just now putting it away. The snow melted in front of the shed 2 weeks ago, but it took me this long to get to it. The books above are what I use to give the different buildings the look of a variety of heights.
One of my favorite things. . .SPRING!! Can you tell?
A few plans for the rest of the week. . .I store my off season clothing in the shed contained in tubs. When I got into the shed today one of them had water on the lid. The roof leaked. I am praying that the clothing inside is not ruined. It is 1/2 of my summer clothing. Now while I would love new summer season clothes, I can't afford them right now. So this week I will be cleaning those clothes.
From my picture book....
His name is Randy. He is named after my BF,who taught him how to play when he was a baby. Now he is my helper in all things.
Thanks to Peggy at The Simple Woman’s Daybook for this wonderful meme. Visit Peggy starting Tuesday to find the list of participants in this week’s Daybook.
Thanks for stopping by.

Monday Mayhem
The Annoying Meme
March 28, 2010
What annoys you about people that you spend time with outside your home (coworkers etc)?
The rudeness that seems to be normal these days.
What annoys you about people in your home?
His incessant noises. He makes this noise that sounds like static. ALL DAY AND NIGHT LONG!
What annoys you about talking on the phone?
Friends who let their children (14-16) interrupt our long distance conversation.
What annoys you about the over-used terms that people use?
The fact that evidently no one can think for themselves and need to have catch phrases. Isn't there an original thought left?
What annoys you about restaurant foods?
The quality and the price.
What annoys you about restaurant servers?
Multiple piercings. I mean really I don't care to see a stud on the tongue of my server or one in their lip. EWW.
What annoys you about reading other blogs?
Giveaways that I have to post back to my blog and then go onto Twitter to get more entries. Or worse go to another web site entirely. I don't bother with those.
What annoys you about memes?
I don't know for sure.
What annoys you about commenting on blogs?
I like to comment but don't always have anything to say. So I just don't. This is something that probably annoys other bloggers about people like me.
What annoys you about people who chew gum?
When they crack it. One time I was in for a mammogram and the tech kept cracking her gum right in my ears.
What annoys you about driving on the highway?
Tailgaters. I mostly drive on a 2 lane highway. I hate it when they are right behind me and I am doing more than the speed limit. Where would they like me to go? Wait don't answer that.
What annoys you about shopping at Walmart?
The fact that nothing is made in the USA and most of it is made in China of all places.
What annoys you about kids?
Almost everything.
What annoys you about your gender?
The whiners.
What annoys you about the opposite sex?
Almost everything.
What annoys you about shoes?
The older I get the bigger my foot gets.
What annoys you about shopping for clothes?
That they keep making them smaller but not changing the size. That and the prices.
What annoys you about music?
Songs whose words I can not understand.
What annoys you about drinking alcohol?
I don't
What annoys you about pizza?
That pizza places keep trying to improve on something that is already perfect. Stuffed crust, square, different types of sauces, etc. Oh and people who put mushrooms and or anchovies on a beautiful pizza.

As promised
March 28, 2010
12:58 AM
I hate trying to think of something to write in the topic line of an email and I just realized now that I don't like here any better.
I did say the other day that I would write about the things that I would or would not do with my new and improved (?) blog.
Some things I won’t do right away because I don’t know how….yet. These things partly include the borders. I see on other blogs that people have put family pictures there. I would like to do that but I have not figured it out yet. But, given time I am sure that I will.
I won’t be putting pictures (badges?) of web sites that I want you to try. I know that some of you make a salary of sorts from doing this, but it is not my desire to make my blog a commercial. If I have a super, fantastic, wonderfully, amazing product to tell you about it will be in my blog and there will be no compensation to me.
I probably won’t have very good punctuation because commas and semi-colons confuse the heck out of me. I try to use them properly, but I am sure I make a lot of mistakes. I know that I must have learned all about punctuation in the many writing classes that I have taken, but my brain just isn’t bringing any of the rules forward…yet.
Some things I will be doing are: staying with the memes that I participate in. I do enjoy them and sometimes they help get my creative thoughts moving. I will always give credit where the meme came from but as for a link back to it, well that is one of those things I have yet to learn.
I am going to write about things in my life. It might not be so much day to day because my life day to day is pretty much the same. However, I will write about things, thoughts that are happening around me. I don’t know if it will be everyday but certainly several times a week.
I may write about stuff that happened when I was growing up. In fact I know of one such story right from the start.
I will share pictures when I have them. I am going to try and be more proficient with my camera. Especially now that I almost have it figured out. I am also going to see about getting my scanner hooked up. I have lots of pictures that I would like to share if I can get them into the computer.
So until next time...
Thanks for stopping by,
Kathy from Reflections by Kathy taught/told me how to sign my name.
Thanks Kathy.

I have finally done it...I think.
Today is March 25, 2010. A while ago I gave thought to blogging more about myself, more of my thoughts and ….err my opinions. Not that I thought anyone would really care, but the reason I started blogging was to give myself a voice and to do some writing.
Today is that day.
Two weeks ago I went out of town to visit my aunt, and cousin. I had a wonderful time with them. We did so many things, but one thing that stands out is our trip to the Habitat for Humanity Store. If you have never been to one check out their web site to see if there is one in your area. The things in the store are incredible, things that have been left over from new construction and things that have come from a remodel of someone’s home. You can purchase wood, doors, windows, light fixtures, washers, dryers, the proverbial kitchen sink and yes even a Jacuzzi. The prices for these things are rock bottom. My cousin bought a bathroom sink for $15.00. It looked brand new. Most of the people who work there are volunteers and all money made goes back to Habitat for Humanity. What a great place.
As you can see from the above picture my aunt has a green thumb. This is her amaryllis that has been blooming since Christmas. Her Christmas cactus blooms at Easter. She has an extraordinary garden outside also that my cousin helps with.
The cats live in the house with my aunt. They allow her and my cousin to reside with them. They are nice enough, but of course not as grand as my cats, but then none are. The cat sitting on the stool likes to have my aunt sing Frere Jaques. The kitty will climb all over my aunt, giving her kisses. When my cousin gives the evening yell that it is, “Brushy time” the other cat comes running. Yeah, I know pretty special, but you don’t know mine.
These two pictures are of a lake near where my aunt lives. I promise it is a lake. I don’t live on either coast and the ocean has not frozen over. This is a huge lake and would take hours to drive all the way around it. You can not see the opposite shore. The ice won’t be out of the lake until late April.
Well there you have it. My first installment of things in my life.
I think I will leave for now, but will return with some things that I will do and not be doing on my blog. Again, not because anyone will really care but because I need to state these things for myself.
Someday I will learn how to do one of those fancy signature things but until then…
Thanks for stopping by,
Trudy

Random Dozen - March 24, 2010
Random Dozen
March 24, 2010
The theme is Spring . . . and any other random questions that crept in.
1. What is your favorite sign of Spring?
I love to hear the Canadian geese fly overhead on their way back home. I like to watch the buds on the trees start to appear. Those are sure signs of Spring.
2. Did you remember to spring forward on March 14? If not, how did it impact your day?
I was not at home, but my husband remembered to set them ahead. I reminded him. I love daylight savings time. I am always eager for the day to start.
3. If soil, time, talent and climate were no problem, what vegetable would you plant in a garden this year?
It's a toss up between tomatoes and sweet corn. I have never had any luck with either one. Now I buy them at a produce stand.
4. If soil, time, talent and climate were no problem, what fruit would you plant?
I think oranges or bananas. You can do many things with both. But I truly love avacadoes. Hmmm, may I have all three?
5. What is your least favorite insect?
The kind that fly or crawl or bite or sting.
6. March 22 was World Water Day. To celebrate, here are some water questions. Do you drink bottled water? If so, what brand?
Only if I forget my water bottle. I need a bottle of water in the car when I am shopping and try to bring mine everywhere. IF I have to buy it it will be whatever is cheapest with a sport top.
7. Have you ever been somewhere that it was not safe to drink the local water? If so, how did you handle that?
Before we got Culligan as a monthly service for reverse osmosis I don't think ours was very healthy. It is full of rust and small grains of sand.
8. How many glasses of water do you drink per day?
I aim for 10 but it is usually around 8 1/2.
9. March 24 is the birthday of Harry Houdini. Have you ever watched a professional magic show? Share.
We used to watch David Copperfield on the television.
10. Have you ever been a participant in a professional magic show (up on stage!)?
When I was in college there was a magician in the student center one day. He also did hypnosis. I was onstage. This is also my most embarrassing moment. Enough said.
11. March 24 is also the birthday of Steve McQueen and Clyde Barrow. Do you like Westerns or gangster movies? If so, what is your favorite?
I think I prefer Westerns because I know who the good guy is. In a gangster movie sometimes I find myself rooting for the bad guy. Not a good thing.
12. (Really random) What U.S. state that you've never visited would you like to visit someday?
Maine. I love the looks of it. The craggy rocks and the ocean are beautiful. Plus I love lobster.

Ten on the Tenth - March 10, 2010
Ten on the Tenth
March 10, 2010
Signs of Spring. Most of these have not yet reached my house but I remember from past years that they eventually do happen here.
10. The sound of the Canada Geese returning. Their honks can be heard as they fly overhead. I like that they announce their arrival.
9. Raccoons and skunks seen on the highway.
8. Flying bugs.
7. Trilliums coming up in the woods.
6. Forget - me - nots taking over the yard.
5. The absence of snow.
4. Longer days.
3. A loamy smell in the woods. A good clean dirt smell from the decaying leaves of last fall turn into black dirt.
2. Feral cats becoming mommies. We always have a couple litters of babies in the Spring.
And the number one sign of spring is (insert drum roll here).....
The Chinese Beetle or as we unaffectionatly call them biting lady bugs.

Random Dozen - March 10, 2010
Random Dozen
March 10,2010
So here are your random plinko questions lined up in a row just like tin cans:
1. How old is the oldest pair of shoes in your closet?
I think the oldest pair of shoes is almost 20 years old. I wore them when I got married. They are so uncomfortable that I doubt I have worn them since, but can't throw them out.
2. Did you buy Girl Scout cookies this year? If so, what variety?
I never saw any Girl Scouts to buy from. The Girl Scout I used to know is not a member now. I would have bought Thin Mints. I live for Thin Mints.
3. Do you know how to ballroom dance? If not, would you like to?
I do not know how. I would love to learn. Ever since I first saw "An American President", I have wanted to dance the way Annette Benning and Michael Douglas did.
4. Were you a responsible child/teenager?
In a lot of ways I was responsible. My mom went back to work when I was in the 6th grade. It was up to me to come home from school and get dinner started. I made out the grocery list each week. That ended when I went into high school. Then I became so very rebellious that I shock myself now at how bad I was.
5. How many of this year's Oscar-nominated movies did you see?
Sad to say I didn't see any. I haven't been to a movie in about 4 years. I am going to change that this year. Even if it means going alone.
6. If you're going to have a medical procedure done, such as having blood drawn, is it easier for you to watch someone else having the procedure done or have it done yourself?
I don't mind watching when I have blood drawn once the needle is in. I don't like to see the initial poke.
7. What is your favorite day of the week and why?
I think it has to be Monday but I am not sure why.
8. Do you miss anyone right now?
I miss my mom, my dad, my friends in WA state that I have never even met, I miss my cousin that died 1 1/2 yrs ago, I miss my son who I don't see nearly often enough.
9. Do hospitals make you queasy?
No they do not. They serve a purpose. When I have been the patient I put my trust in their knowledge. Knowledge that I lack. When I go to visit I go with a caring heart and hope to give something to the person I am visiting. Even if it is only a fleeting smile or a minute to forget why they are in the hospital.
10. At which store would you like to max-out your credit card. Not that you ever would, you responsible person, you.
Tough one. Probably most likely a bookstore. Then a shoe and purse store. I can't imagine being able to buy any of those things brand new.
11. Are you true to the brand names of products/items?
I never change brands of TP or laundry soap. Before the recession I never changed brands on anything. Now I buy whatever is cheapest.
12. Which is more difficult: looking into someone’s eyes when you are telling someone how you feel, or looking into someone’s eyes when he/she is telling you how he/she feels?
I don't like to discuss feelings no matter who is doing the talking. I mean what is the point? I either like/love you or I don't. And I probably can guess how you feel about me so why discuss it into the ground? This, what my DH calls an attitude, drives him crazy. He always wants to TALK. I tell him I love him, what more does he want?

Curious as a Cat
#209
March 9, 2010
1) Have you ever had a friend date someone you couldn't stand? How did you handle that?
Oh yeah I have. I tried really hard never to be around when he was with her. This was a firend boy who had a hated GF. I could not stand her and luckily he got smart and dumped her before I had to tell him what she was really like. This was of course centuries ago.
2) Among all your close friends, who is the cutest?
Without mentioning names it is my BFF. She has the wittiest smile and the twinkliest (I just made up this word)eyes. She can raise one eyebrow up her forehead when in doubt of something. Very cute indeed.
3) Do you have someone wrapped around your finger? Or are you wrapped around someone else's finger?
I don't think either of these is true for me. I can not be controlled just by someones will. Also, I don't like to hold control over another person.
The picture is a hot summer night. It is at the end of a summer festival. The fireworks are glorious. Even the mosquitoes are awed by the beauty.

For Today… Monday, March 8, 2010
Outside my window...gloomy. cloudy. Fog this morning. But and this is huge...the snow is melting. There is hope for Spring.
I am thinking... about getting a very small piercing in my nose. I mean very small. I saw one and it was so cute. But I am worried that I may be too old. I am also thinking that I might start doing a more day to day type blog. Like what most people do. I am a little worried that I don't have enough to write about. However, it would be a perfect place for me to have a voice. I don't want to be all negative. I only have 25 followers and would hate to lose any. Some prayer is needed on this.
I am thankful for...God who will forgive me even when I find it hard to forgive myself.
I am wearing...dark green pants, lavender sweater, socks, and slippers.
I am going...to make sure the house is clean by Friday. I won't be here for a few days and don't want to come home to a mess.
I am reading..."High, Wide, and Lonesome" by Hal Borland. It is about his family and when they relocated from Nebraska to Colorado in the early 1900s.
On my mind...my son. He turns 26 this month.
I am hoping...to get some things ready for sale on eBay this week. It has been a long time since I have done that, but now I really need to clear things out.
I am learning...that I don't like the idea of growing older and don
t know what to do about it.
From the kitchen…pork chops, mashed potatoes, fresh asparagus w/hollandaise sauce. Tomorrow baked fish, risotto, brussell sprouts.
From around the house...laundry to be put away. A sweet treat to be baked. Kitties to be played with.
Some plans for the rest of the week...a haircut, grocery shopping, and pharmacy on Wednesday. Packing on Thursday. Travel on Friday.
I am going to try to add some photos of the baby blanket I crocheted, the hat, and the booties. I hope it works.
I needed a model. I don't have any baby dolls. This is a hooded blanket. The booties are of 2 different styles, a regular type and a Mary Jane kind.
The hat is a simple crochet. I don't make very good tassles but I think it is kind of cute.
The booties.
The blanket has a hood that is crocheted right onto a corner. The hood can be seen more clearly in the picture with the dog (stuffed).

Random Dozen - March 3, 2010
Random Dozen
March 3, 2010
1. Do you prefer even or odd numbers? Any particular reason?
I like even numbers. Six to be exact. There is a 6 in my birth date, in my husbands, my son's birth date adds up to 6, I was married on June 15 which is 6 for the month and another 6 for the 1+5, yes 6 is my number.
2. On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being "not at all" and 10 being Carly Simon-worthy, how vain are you?
Probably a 7. I am really vain about the way my make up looks like, especially my eye make up. However, I can pass a mirror without looking at it so maybe only a 6.
3. Among these Irish stereotypes, with which do you identify most closely? Talkative, Proud, Inquisitive, Love to party, Hot-tempered
I am a hot-tempered partyer. Or at least I was. I don't party so much any more. I can be quite talkative, depending on whom I am talking to.
4. How lucky do you consider yourself?
Back when I used to gamble I was not very lucky at the casino. But not so unlucky either.
I won a drawing here in blog world.
But I am lucky in having a family that loves me no matter my faults. Sort of like God does.
5. What is the subject of your favorite post that you've written?
I think that this is a 3 part answer because there are 3 things that I especially like. I wrote a post about a dear, dear man who went missing last July, the day before his grand daughter's wedding. I didn't receive any comments on it but I felt good about writing about Pete.
I also wrote a poem, sort of. It rhymed anyway. I like that because it makes me smile. A poet I am not so this was fun.
And then I wrote a 3 part mini-story about love, aging, and death. It is special to me.
6. Describe March weather where you live in three words.
This year.....in like a lamb.
7. How apt are you at detecting blarney when you hear it? (Smooth talk, flattery)
I am quite good at detecting it. My uncle used to give it to me with a smile on his face so I knew right away. I learned to recognize it that way. I also learned how to speak blarney from my uncle.
8. How "green" are you, environmentally speaking?
I try to be, but I am not very successful at it. We don't have recycling where I live. The county used to have recycling sheds set up but people used them for things other than recyclables. The cost got to be too much. So all of our trash gets put into one container.
9. What is your favorite song this week?
Well thanks to someone whose name I won't mention I can't get Carly Simon and You're so Vain out of my head. Plus I heard it on the radio. So I guess for this week it is that song.
10. You are walking along and see a coin on the ground. What denomination does it have to be before you will stop to pick it up?
Find a penny pick it up, all the day you'll have good luck. Then you put it in your shoe. How's that?
11. Complete the sentence: "Every time I look outside my window ...."
I see less and less snow. Yea!!
12. What was the #1 song on the day you were born? See this site to find out.
All I can say is thanks, now I feel really old. I am so old that evidently music had not been invented. My year was not listed. No wonder my hair is so gray, and my crows feet have legs.
The saying I used to describe March is really...In like a Lion out like a lamb, In like a Lamb out like a Lion. I guess we will have a cold end of March.
