ABC WEDNESDAY ROUND 5 G 9/2/09

ABC Wednesday Round 5 G is for....

Goldenrod

Goldenrod is the feathery like flower that starts it's bloom around the Labor Day weekend. It is a pretty flower. I don't know if it has a scent or not. I never get that close.

I remember Goldenrod because for years it signified the time of my son's most horrible allergy attacks. He would be miserable for weeks or until the first frost. The Goldenrod was the instigator in these attacks. Without the Goldenrod he could have enjoyed his autumn.

I remember the days and nights with him being miserable. Hooking up the nebulizer to help him breath. If after too many days of that not being sufficient, the doctor would prescribe an oral steroid to help ease his breathing. I remember the red eyes.

My son did get allergy shots. I am glad to say that he is now free of this horrendous discomfort. But I can not look at Goldenrod and see it's beauty, all I see is a miserable feeling son.

  1. What a shame! It looks such a pretty flower, but you must have dreaded it. You must have felt so helpless watching your son suffer - I'm so glad he's grown out of that allergy!

On behalf of the ABC Team, thanks for posting in spite of the difficulties!

  2. So many suffer because of it, pitty; it is such a pretty little flower. I've been sneezing and coughing more than normal and just started my allergy meds again today. I relate; though sounds like the poor little guy had it far worse then I do.
